The correct answer is D: The clinical features of ANUG are soreness and bleeding of the gingivae, together with the development of crater-like ulcers, due to the necrosis of the gingival papillae (Fig. 4.1). This ulceration subsequently spreads along the gingival margin. Patients develop a marked halitosis, which has a characteristic odour (Table 4.1). In a few patients with ANUG there are fever, malaise, and lymphadenitis
