MDS entrance preaparations | Denture-induced stomatitis

Most common type of denture-induced stomatitis is

a. Type 1
b. Type 2
c. Type 3
d. Type 4

The correct answer is B: The clinical pictureof denture-induced stomatitis(also referred to as chronic erythematous candidosis)  is of marked redness of the palatal mucosa covered by the appliance (the equivalent mandibular denture-bearing area does not appear to become involved) often with a sharply defined edge . If a relief area is present on the denture, there may be a corresponding area of spongy ‘granular looking’ tissue, but otherwise the affected mucosa is smooth.  classification for this condition: type 1, characterized by pin-point hyperaemia of the palatal mucosa; type 2 (the most common type), in which there is diffuse erythema limited to the area of the denture; type 3, in which there is a hyperplastic nodular reaction of the palatal mucosa.
